The Round Table Sessions

In the spirit of past incarnations of the Chicago Magic Roundtable, and inspired by the famed Long Beach Mystics, every third Tuesday we’ll gather in the 654 Club to devote our energies to helping one another by working on new material and getting feedback from our peers. There’s only one rule for these “works in progress” sessions: if you attend, you’re expected to participate, so be ready to work and contribute! If you don’t have a work in progress to share and receive feedback on, bring your magical mind and observation skills so you can provide feedback to others.

Have a routine that is untested, unfinished, or in need of assistance? This is an opportunity to get helpful suggestions, fresh perspectives, and generally get “unstuck,” clearing away obstacles in the learning and creative process. Together, we have decades of experience and a vast body of knowledge; let’s use those to improve our magic!

Don Wiberg presents "History of the Round Table"

don_wiberg.jpg

Join Don Wiberg for an afternoon reminiscing about the characters who
frequented the Chicago Magicians Roundtable in the Loop. Don, a Past
International President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians is
probably one of a few remaining magicians who can remember many of the
regulars who joined together almost daily at the Drake’s Mayors Row
restaurant at 131 North Dearborn and has a story or two to tell about most of
them.

Don will use as a basis of his presentation, the classic drawing by Salvatore
Salla. If you’re interested in what how the Chicago Magicians Roundtable
contributed to making Chicago an important center of magic in the United
States, be sure to come to the Chicago Magic Lounge on July 14, 2014 at
1:00 P.M. for an interesting journey through the past with Don Wiberg.

Jon Armstrong Master Class

JonArmstrong2015-227.jpg

More than a lecture, a Master Class is a chance to dive into the deep end with a world-class magician. Participation is highly encouraged!

Winner of numerous awards, including Close Up Magician of the Year,  Jon Armstrong has brought his amazing skills and magical comedy to prestigious audiences in over 30 countries worldwide.

Growing up in Orlando, Florida, Jon became fascinated by the magic he saw in the theme parks around him and dreamed of having his own show. This dream came true when Disney asked him to bring his act to Epcot and he became the resident magician at Walt Disney World. He was only 20.

After spending 5 years doing his show at Disney World, Vegas called and Jon answered, becoming a recurring headliner at Caesar's Magical Empire. It was between these runs in Vegas that Jon started doing tours all over the world as both a performer and lecturer, teaching others how to add humor and entertainment to their magic.

Jon now lives in Los Angeles and is a frequent performer at the world famous Magic Castle. His TV appearances as a talk show guest, featured performer or actor, include shows like NBC's "The Today Show", and "Tonight Show", "Magic Castle After Dark" on A&E, CW's "Penn and Teller Fool Us", Fox's "Masters of Illusion" and ABC's "Bachelorette." He has been featured in cover stories of trade publications like Magic, Genii and other magic journals worldwide. Articles have been done on him in The New York Times, LA Magazine and Harpers, just to name a few.

When you see him live,  Jon's hope is that you will laugh at his original humor, be amazed by his skills and most of all, feel like you made a new friend.

Brett Schneider Q&A

IMG_20180501_201827.jpg

Chicago Magic Lounge's very own Brett Schneider is in town  and will be headlining this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.

Brett Schneider has graciously agreed to sit down and talk with us about his process of creating magic as well as his experience conceiving and producing The Magic Play.

The Magic Play started right here in Chicago and has taken Brett all over the country.

"Though a good magician must always be in control of his show, his offstage life may be as fragile as a house of cards. When a rising young magician must take the stage just hours after his partner has left him, his performance begins to unravel. Overcome with heartbreak, he must accept that the inherent tricks and deceptions he uses to dazzle his audience are the very things that drove his lover away. Critically acclaimed magician, illusion designer and actor Brett Schneider stars in a mind-blowing spectacle that combines the allure of a live magic show with the poignant punch of Chicago theater." - The Goodman Theatre

We invite you to come out and have questions ready for a true master of the art. The Q&A will begin immediately following the 654 Club performance.

LUCY-DARLING-117.jpg

Fire-eater, Bubblemancer, Magician, Balloon Artist... Carisa Hendrix does it all.

Carisa Hendrix grew up fascinated by the art of magic, creating her own tricks to fool her classmates at the age of 7. By the time she graduated from high school, she had become a skilled fire eater and sideshow artist and began doing shows around town to help pay the bills. Over the next 4 years, she worked with for 6 different magicians as an assistant before breaking out to create her own magic shows.

Since then Hendrix has done thousands of performance, written for magic magazines, been featured on iTricks, stage managed for the largest magic convention in the world, and starred in her own Las Vegas Illusion show in 2015.
