Take a virtual tour of the Performance Bar

A Chicago Magic Bar with Live Close-Up Performances

Bar magic is at the heart of Chicago’s close-up magic tradition. In the 1930s, Jim Ryan’s Magic Tap became the world’s first magic bar, helping establish magic as a staple of Chicago nightlife. Venues like Frank Everhart’s Magic Bar, the New York Lounge, Johnny Paul’s Magic Lounge, and Little Bit o’ Magic carried that tradition forward, with legends like Johnny Paul, Heba Haba Al, and Jim Ryan performing just inches from their audiences.

The Performance Bar continues that legacy in the relaxed setting of our Art Deco lounge. Each evening from 5:00 pm until close, a rotating lineup of magicians performs close-up magic at the bar in 20-minute sets with brief breaks.

The Performance Bar does not require tickets and does not follow a set performance schedule. Guests are welcome to come for drinks, stay as long as they like, and experience close-up magic throughout their visit.

Enjoy one of the most distinctive magic bar experiences in Chicago, where cocktails, atmosphere, and close-up magic come together for a unique night out.

The Performance Bar is an intimate space with limited seating. Entry is first-come, first-served, and we do not take reservations. See our FAQs for recommendations on the best times to visit and more information.

Chicago Magic Lounge is a 21+ Venue. Persons under the age of 21 are not permitted in the Performance Bar area.
